“Birthdays and Breakups” Lyrics

At our house and I’m feeling fucked up
I was having a good dream and I woke up
This is something that I just can’t make up

Birthdays and breakups
Birthdays and breakups

And you’re making a big mistake, you say
Cos you saw the last one and she went away
Maybe you’re right, maybe I’m just fucked up

Birthdays and breakups
Birthdays and breakups

What would you do if you had one more night?
One more chance just to make it feel right?
Would you spend your time picking fights?

Or would you spend it right like a cinderella ball?
Minutes moving fast, yeah, we can’t count ‘em all
Laughing at the jealousy
Make it feel small
And I’ll love you forever but
Love just ain’t enough, it just ain’t

Cruisin’ through the city, all the city lights
Trip is kickin’ in, nothing looked so bright
Goin’ to a show, just like old times

And we would dance for hours
Dance until the dawn
And we’re lockin’ lips right at our favorite song
The Tanqueray and tonic, we could do no wrong
And I’ll love you forever but
Love just ain’t enough, it just ain’t

Out on good behavior
I tried to be your savior

I thought everything could be forgiven
Little did I know
I was the one who needed savin’

Beat up and stained like an old vest
Is the beating heart in your chest
It kept me warm on goddamn cold days
Like even our favorite things,
Sometimes we must give away

I thought everything could be forgiven
Little did I know
I was the one who needed savin’,

I tried to be your savior

“Birds Against The Glass” Lyrics

As a girl she had a dream that she was gonna leave her house
And find a man who shared her love and shared her thoughts
Together they would roam across the forty-eight and spend the money they had saved
With fellow gypsy people they would learn to live again and dance the night away
Ridin’ the new wave

So she packed her car up tight and headed for the southern states
And found a man she kinda liked but he never treated her right
With money running low they built a house that they could never clean
He promised her that he would change
He promised her that they would build a scene
Just like she dreamed

But the man was a boy
And the bank loan was a ploy
In a world like this we burn and crash
Just like birds against the glass

Once there was a summer filled with love and everybody’s consciousness was being guided from above
And it was clear that there was power in the people and if people carried flowers
The intention would stay good and plain
And so he made a promise that he’d never change the hippie he became

But the clouds kept rollin in, the baby boomers giving in
To mass appeal and government but he said they would never win
The country was a mess before but free love seemed to change the war
And he saw no difference if we could just elect the right president
Maybe people would get it
But now he keeps a tank full of gas
Oh, just to save his own ass
In a world like this we burn and crash
Just like birds against the glass

Oh, will we stay where we last?
Oh, this too shall pass

In a world like this we burn and crash just like birds against

“Your Mother’s Jam” Lyrics

If it wasn’t for your mother’s jam
Nothing else would taste quite the same
She taught me ’bout the cactus and the bees
That’s what makes the cherries sweet

If it wasn’t for your mother’s jam
I don’t think you and me could be friends
Just when I think that I’m getting bored
That’s when she takes it out the cupboard

I’ve been watering the bings hangin’ on the tree
I think they sway up and down for me
I think I’ll water them some more cos they’re so thirsty
And when the sun leaves, they’ll be ripe for picking

They say all the birds your age are flappin down on pearl
But the bees are making honey for another girl
So let’s hang cos I think I’ll be just in time
When the bread is rising in the oven, it’s a sign for

Jam, your mother’s jam, your mother’s
Jam

If it wasn’t for your mother’s jam
I don’t think I would understand
How to age to perfection
Spread it all over my complexion

And when we all gather ’round to label the jars
I feel like I’m writing miniature love letters
I’m getting territorial urges with your dad
Is it wrong that I get off when I’m making him mad?

They say all the birds your age are flappin’ down on pearl
But all the bees are makin’ honey for another girl
So let’s hang out cos I’m thinkin’ I’ll be just in time
When the bread is rising in the oven
It’s a sign for

Jam, your mother’s jam, your mother’s
Jam

Is it passe that I don’t want any other?
Spread it on buns with my favorite nut butter
Sophisticated is my pallet, like a man
I’m such a fan, such a fan, such a fan
